Preparing Subcutaneous Fluids - Dogs

Most K9 OSA dogs tolerate being given subcutaneous fluids (SQ), fluid given under the skin, with no problem. It will be absorbed into the blood stream and can be used to correct or prevent dehydration when a dog is unable to drink enough water on his or her own. Dehydration can happen as a reaction to chemotherapy, and when a dog is vomiting and/or has diarrhea.
